Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the coup attempt by soldiers in Gabon on Monday.
The military in Gabon on Monday claimed it has seized power from the President Ali Bongo-led government in the country.
Buhari’s reaction was contained in a statement signed by his Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu on Tuesday and was made available to DAILY POST.
He said: “The military officers in Gabon should understand that the era of military coups and governments in Africa and indeed worldwide, is long gone.
“Democracy is supreme and the constitutional stipulations on the peaceful change of administration must be respected.
“That is the only way we can ensure peace and stability not only within the country but also in the region.”
