ONDO North Senatorial District lawmaker Senator Ajayi Boroffice has officially launched his campaign to become the deputy senate president by writing to all of his colleagues asking them for their support.
Senator Boroffice, 69, who was born in Oka-Akoko in Ondo State, became a lecturer at the University of Ibadan in 1975 and a professor of zoology at the Lagos State University in 1986. He was first elected as a senator on the platform of the Labour Party in 2011 and later that year decamped to the Action Congress of Nigeria which later became part of the All Progressives Congress.
Now a third time senator, he is a senior member of the APC in the red chamber having been returned in 2015 and 2019. Senator Boroffice is the only APC senator from Ondo State as in 2019, the Peoples Democratic Party won the Ondo Central and Ondo South senatorial seats to the displeasure of the party.
In his letter to other lawmakers, Senator Boroffice said: “With an excellent public service record, rich legislative experience and amiable personae, I consider myself the best candidate for the office of deputy senate president.
“In spite of our different backgrounds, religious beliefs and political inclinations, the business of national law-making has pulled us together as friends and colleagues. In this light, I humbly seek your cooperation, support and prayers in this election and together we shall succeed.”
He now joins a growing list of senators for the post which includes Orji Uzor Kalu, Ovie Omo-Agege and Francis Alimikhena. For the post of senate president, the APC has zoned the position to the northwest geo-political zone and the main contenders there are Senators Ahmad Lawan, Ali Ndume and Danjuma Goje.
