Two teenagers have reportedly died in a swimming pool belonging to a hotel in Okhoro, in the Egor Local Government Area of Edo State. The victims’ identities were given as Isibor Ikponmwosa, 17 and Emmanuel Abuzu, 16. They paid about N500 each to use the swimming pool before they were reportedly drowned.
When journalists visited the hotel, Okhoro Play House, Benin, the swimming wing was under lock and key. The hotel manager would not respond to questions from the media, insisting instead that the Police were already handling the matter and should be approached.
Meanwhile, some workers of the hotel had also been taken to the Okhoro Police Station for interrogation. However, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, said he was not aware of the incident, and that he was away on an official assignment.
The case had been transferred to the homicide department of the state police command.
