Northern Leaders Express Dissatisfaction with Tinubu, Opposition in Case of Election Rerun Might Occ

According to the Chidi Ibeh-led faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Northern leaders and political figures are dissatisfied with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They may oppose him if the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) orders a rerun on September 16. The Supreme Court is expected to make a decision this month regarding the petitions against Tinubu's victory in the February 25 presidential election.

In a statement released on Sunday, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, noted that northerners are eagerly awaiting the tribunal's verdict to execute their strategy. Ohanaeze also emphasized that there would be no coup d'état in Nigeria unless it received approval from the North. The group further disclosed that Northern leadership thwarted the planned incursion into Niger Republic by the Tinubu-led Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Additionally, the organization cautioned that the recent coups in Africa serve as warnings against the continuous declaration of fraudulent election results, poor governance, disrespect for the constitution by political elites, and the West's imposition of puppet presidents in African nations.

The statement reads: “Northern leadership shut down the Tinubu-led ECOWAS planned invasion of Niger Republic through the senators, traditional rulers and their elder statesmen, who are unhappy with the President’s style of leadership and key appointments to the South West.

“Northern Nigeria is in shock with the way Tinubu’s Presidency is steering the ship of Nigeria’s state and the trepidation of feasible restructuring of the country, the appointment of a vibrant Southerner as Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister. Most importantly, key positions to the South West have thrown the North into confusion and premonition of the future.
