Nigeria will lend to nations by 2026 — First Lady
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, expressed that the nation is heading towards a future of significant growth and might soon be positioned to extend loans to other countries.
She shared these thoughts on Sunday in Ile-Ife, Osun State, after receiving the chieftaincy title of Yeye Asiwaju Gbogbo Ile Oodua from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, during celebrations marking his 10th anniversary as monarch.
The event attracted numerous prominent political figures, former presidents, state governors, and traditional leaders from all over the country.
Addressing the audience, Mrs. Tinubu mentioned that Nigeria is entering a new era of advancement. She stated, “today is not a day for lengthy speeches. I wish to express my gratitude to the people of Ile-Ife. I also appreciate the Ooni of Ife for granting me this honor.”
Furthermore, she remarked, “Nigeria’s time for joy has arrived. Those questioning our approach will soon see how it is done. By 2026, Nigeria will experience prosperity and will be able to lend to other nations.”
She noted that this anticipated growth would occur under President Bola Tinubu's administration. According to her, “it is crucial to mention it here at the origin of the Yoruba nation that during President Bola Tinubu's tenure, people will be amazed at how he achieves such milestones.”
Previously, the Ooni of Ife commended Senator Tinubu for her unwavering support since his ascension to the throne. He also highlighted the long-term contributions of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to the monarchy.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, delivered a goodwill message, wishing for a long and peaceful reign for the Ooni while urging Nigerians to pray for their leaders so they can steer the country positively.
Osun State’s Governor, Ademola Adeleke, also addressed the gathering. He stated that Oba Ogunwusi has redefined Yoruba royalty and has strived to present Ile-Ife as the cultural epicenter of the Yoruba people.
Adeleke remarked, “our royal father exemplified what it means to be an empowered leader. In the past ten years, his majesty has advanced the branding of Ile-Ife as the cultural capital of the Yoruba people.”
He further mentioned that the state government is collaborating closely with the Ooni on this objective. Adeleke noted that 14 roads have been completed in Ile-Ife, with several others underway, and the first flyover in the town nearing completion.
