In his first address to the United Kingdom and his Commonwealth realms, King Charles III expressed his “love for Harry and Meghan.”
“I also want to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas,” the king said, despite their feud with the royal family.
He went on to say that ascending to the throne would change his life.
“Of course, my life will change as I take on new responsibilities.”
“I will no longer be able to devote so much of my time and energy to the charities and issues about which I am so passionate.” But I know this vital work will continue in the capable hands of others.
“This is also a period of transition for my family.” Camilla, my lovely wife, will be of great assistance to me.
“She becomes my Queen Consort in recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago.”
“I am confident that she will bring to the demands of her new role the same steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely.”
“As my heir, William now takes on the Scottish titles that meant so much to me.”
“He succeeds me as Duke of Cornwall and assumes the Duchy of Cornwall responsibilities that I have held for more than five decades.”
“Today, I am proud to make him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru, of the country whose title I have had the great honor of bearing for so much of my life and duty.”
“With Catherine by his side, I am confident that our new Prince and Princess of Wales will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, bringing the marginal to the center stage where vital assistance can be provided.”
“I also want to express my admiration for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives abroad.”
“We will come together as a nation, as a Commonwealth, and indeed as a global community in a little more than a week to lay my beloved mother to rest.”
