A lot of Local Government Areas in Osun State are in complete blackout as Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company disconnected them for not paying.
All activities at the Osogbo Local Government Secretariat, which is located at the center of the state capital, have been interrupted as neither the electricity nor generator was at their disposal to provide them power.
One of the staff at the secretariat, who wished to be unnamed, stated that the council was in a bad debt amounting to several millions of Naira, stating further that the secretariat had been disconnected for over two weeks now.
“Activities in this council has been on hold for about 15 days now, nothing is working again, you that there is nothing we can do without light.”
“I learnt that the council is owing the IBEDC in millions, the excuse of the council management is that there is no money to pay.”
“The way things are going, I doubt if the light will be restored this year, we are in for serious mess,” the source said.
Olorunda Local Government, also located within the city is currently in darkness because of the huge debt they owe.
According to a source, the council disclosed that IBEDC came to disconnect power at the secretariat after a number of warnings and calls for payment to avoid embarrassment.
All attempts to get the reactions of members of Caretaker Committee of the affected local governments, nevertheless, turned out to be unsuccessful as none of them was ready to talk about the issue.
