Segun Adekoya, a member of the House of Representatives from Ogun State, has demanded to remove the show ‘Big Brother Naija’. Mr. Adekoya called for a motion in the parliament, The motion is due for a debate with other lawmakers on Wednesday but the absence of Mr. Adekoya prompted other lawmakers to just drop the case with the show’s removal from Nigerian television.
Mr. Adekoya’s belief that despite Nigeria’s big improvement in it’s economy, Nigeria remains traditional, Mr. Adekoya added that shows like this is ‘’immoral’’ and it is not suitable for young audiences especially teens because it can easily affect their minds and the way they think with the opposite sex.
“By virtue of the existing laws, broadcasting in the country is expected to promote indigenous cultures, morals and community life and not to encourage values of the country” this was said by Mr. Olusegun Olulade, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly who called and demanded that the reality TV show must be banned.
“We must tell ourselves the truth. The show does not promote good ethical or cultural values. It does not amount to any economic gain for Nigeria.” Mr.Adekoya said.
