FBI arrests US judge over alleged assistance to undocumented immigrant

The Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested a US judge on Friday for allegedly assisting an unauthorized immigrant in avoiding arrest, according to a now-deleted social media post by FBI Director Kash Patel.

"Just NOW, the FBI arrested Judge Hannah Dugan out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on obstruction charges—after evidence of Judge Dugan obstructing an immigration arrest operation last week," Patel revealed in an X post on Friday morning.

The department's detention of a state judge marks a significant escalation in the administration's continuing conflict with the judiciary.

It is unknown why Patel's post was deleted.

The Department of Justice has yet to react, but a representative for the United States Marshals Service has confirmed the arrests.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported that Dugan, an elected Milwaukee County circuit court judge, was the subject of an FBI inquiry earlier this week.

In response to the outlet's inquiry, she replied via email claiming "nearly every fact regarding the 'tips' in your email is inaccurate."

"We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest," Patel said in an email. Patel said that the judge's actions "created increased danger to the public."

The Trump administration has pledged to investigate and perhaps prosecute municipal authorities who do not follow its wide deportation policy.

A Department of Justice letter issued in January ordered U.S. Attorney's Offices to prosecute charges if needed.

In February, Trump issued an executive order directing department heads to guarantee that government monies did not encourage illegal immigration or "sanctuary policies that seek to shield illegal aliens from deportation."
