One of the hottest Nigerian footballers in the world at the moment, who is on a season long loan to Anderlecht from English Premier League side Everton, 20 years old, Onyekuru. He currently recovering from injury, is in disagreement with his parent club over the next step in his career.
Onyekuru joined Everton from modest Belgium side Eupen on the strength of his 24 goals haul in his first season in the league, year of 2017. British issues work permit that prevent non-European Union footballers from working in the country made Everton to loan him to Anderlecht
After a slow start to life at the Belgian club, Onyekuru started realizing his real potential with goals and assists before his rise was cut short by the injury which has kept him out for over three months. Now back to full fitness but yet to play in a competitive game, Everton and Anderlecht have reportedly agreed to extend his loan for another year but the player is not eager on agreeing to the decision.
There are insinuations that Onyekuru also wants to wait till the end of the season to see if Anderlecht will qualify for Europe before agreeing to the extension and believed that the player wants to leave his options open until after the World Cup. It is expected to be named in Nigeria’s provisional; 35-man squad and looks a certainty to make the 23-man team going to Russia in the summer.
