Nigeria’s team has already won 21 medals and currently leading at the ongoing 2018 Africa Wrestling Championships in Port Harcourt.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the medals comprise nine gold, five silver and seven bronze.
After 3 days, in the male categories, Nigeria has won 11 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze) while their female counterparts have also climbed the podium on 10 occasions with 6 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.
One of the revelations of the Championship so far has been a 16-year old student of the Akure High School, Akure Ondo State, Stephen Akintewe.
Stephen won gold in the 60kg cadet event. With still about 2 days to go at the Championships, the teenager is optimistic of earning more podium finishes.
NAN reports that the competition which commenced on Feb. 7 will end Feb. 11.
No fewer than 90 wrestlers are representing Nigeria at the championship.
